Gammu is the name of the project as well as name of command line utility, which you can use to control your phone. Gammu command line utility provides access to wide range of phone features, however support level differs from phone to phone and you might want to check <A HREF="http://wammu.eu/phones/" target="_blank">Gammu Phone Database</A> for user experiences with various phones. Wammu is mobile phone manager running on Linux, Windows and possibly other

Kannel is an open source WAP gateway. It attempts to provide this essential part of the WAP infrastructure freely to everyone so that the market potential for WAP services, both from wireless operators and specialized service providers, will be realized as efficiently as possible. Kannel also works as an SMS gateway for GSM networks. Almost all GSM phones can send and receive SMS messages, so this is a way to serve many more clients than just those using a new WAP phone.

PySMS is a package, written in Python, which communicates with a mobile phone, allowing SMS messages to be sent and received. It includes an XML- RPC server, allowing the resource to be shared across a network. There is also a message - response mechanism, which allows an automatic response to messages to be specified, based on the content of the message. This allows you to, for example, run commands on your server and return a summary of the results to your phone, via SMS.

PySMS - Python SMS Messenger

The SMS Server Tools send and receive short messages through GSM modems or mobile phones. This tool can send short messages by simply storing text files into a special spool directory. The program monitors this directory and sends new files automatically. It also stores received short messages into another directory as text files. The program can run other external programs or scripts after events like reception of a new message, successful sending and also when a problem has been detected. These external programs can inspect the related text files and perform automatic actions, for example storing information into a database, sending an automatic reply, forwarding messages via eMail etc. When you send a message with this software, you have to pay exactly the same price as when you send normally with your mobile. Most phone network provider take a fixed price per SMS and also offer tarrif options to lower the price. You can save a lot of money by selecting the right tarrif for your SIM cards.
