AliSQL is a MySQL branch originated from Alibaba Group. It is based on the MySQL official release and has many feature and performance enhancements. AliSQL has proven to be very stable and efficient in production environment. It can be used as a free, fully compatible, enhanced and open source drop-in replacement for MySQL.
 
AliSQL has been an open source project since August 2016. It is being actively developed by engineers from Alibaba Group. Moreover, it includes patches from Percona, WebScaleSQL, and MariaDB. AliSQL is a fruit of community effort. Everyone is welcomed to get involved.

MySQL provides connectivity for client applications developed in the Java programming language with MySQL Connector/J, a driver that implements the Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) API and also MySQL X DevAPI. MySQL Connector/J 8.0 is a JDBC Type 4 driver that is compatible with the JDBC 4.2 specification. The Type 4 designation means that the driver is a pure Java implementation of the MySQL protocol and does not rely on the MySQL client libraries.

VLC media player is a free and open source media player and multimedia framework written by the VideoLAN project. VLC is a portable multimedia player, encoder, and streamer supporting many audio and video codecs and file formats as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. 
 
It is able to stream over networks and to transcode multimedia files and save them into various formats. The default distribution of VLC includes a large number of free decoding and encoding libraries, avoiding the need for finding/calibrating proprietary plugins. VLC is a packet-based media player, and it can play the video content of some damaged, incomplete, or unfinished videos. For example, files still downloading via peer-to-peer (P2P) networks.

The resulting file appears as a shell script (many of those have a .run suffix), and can be launched as is. The archive will then uncompress itself to a temporary directory and an optional arbitrary command will be executed (for example an installation script). 
 
This is pretty similar to archives generated with WinZip Self-Extractor in the Windows world. Makeself archives also include checksums for integrity self-validation (CRC and/or MD5/SHA256 checksums).

pngquant is a PNG compressor that significantly reduces file sizes by converting images to a more efficient 8-bit PNG format with alpha channel (often 60-80% smaller than 24/32-bit PNG files). Compressed images are fully standards-compliant and are supported by all web browsers and operating systems.
 
It supports high-quality palette generation using a combination of vector quantization algorithms. It uses unique adaptive dithering algorithm that adds less noise to images than the standard Floyd-Steinberg.

Flame graphs are a visualization of hierarchical data, created to visualize stack traces of profiled software so that the most frequent code-paths to be identified quickly and accurately. It basically visualizes a collection of stack traces (aka call stacks), shown as an adjacency diagram with an inverted icicle layout. Flame graphs are commonly used to visualize CPU profiler output, where stack traces are collected using sampling.

TypeDB is a strongly-typed database with a rich and logical type system. TypeDB empowers you to tackle complex problems, and TypeQL is its query language. TypeDB allows you to model your domain based on logical and object-oriented principles. Composed of entity, relationship, and attribute types, as well as type hierarchies, roles, and rules, TypeDB allows you to think higher-level as opposed to join-tables, columns, documents, vertices, edges, and properties.
 
TypeDB allows you to model your domain using the well-known Entity-Relationship model. It is composed of entity types, relation types, and attribute types, with the introduction of role types. TypeDB allows you to leverage the full expressivity of the ER model, and describe your schema through first normal form.
 
Types provide a way to describe the logical structures of your data, allowing TypeDB to validate that your code inserts and queries data correctly. Query validation goes beyond static type-checking, and includes logical validation of meaningless queries. With strict type-checking errors, you have a dataset that you can trust.
 
TypeDB encodes your data for logical interpretation by a reasoning engine. It enables type-inference and rule-inference, which create logical abstractions of data. This allows the discovery of facts and patterns that would otherwise be too hard to find; and complex queries become much simpler.
 
TypeDB's API is provided through a gRPC client, providing bi-directional streaming, compression, and strong message typing, that REST APIs could not provide. TypeDB Clients are delivered as libraries in dedicated languages that provide stateful objects, Session and Transactions, for you to interact with the database programmatically.

coreboot is aimed at replacing the proprietary BIOS (firmware) found in most computers. coreboot performs a little bit of hardware initialization and then executes additional boot logic, called a payload. coreboot can scale from specialized applications that run directly from firmware, run operating systems in flash, load custom bootloaders, or implement firmware standards, like PC BIOS services or UEFI.
Its design philosophy is to do the bare minimum necessary to ensure that hardware is usable and then pass control to a different program called the payload. The payload can then provide user interfaces, file system drivers, various policies etc. to load the OS.
