Postal is a complete and fully featured mail server for use by websites & web servers. Think Sendgrid, Mailgun or Postmark but open source and ready for you to run on your own servers. Postal was developed by aTech Media to serve its own mail processing requirements and we have since decided that it should be released as an open source project for the community.
 
The application has been running in production for us for nearly 6 months and we will be continuing to use it ourselves and support its ongoing development. If you have any questions about getting up and running, just post an issue.

Haraka is a highly scalable node.js email server with a modular plugin architecture. Haraka can serve thousands of concurrent connections and deliver thousands of messages per second. Haraka and plugins are written in asynchronous JS and are very fast. Haraka has very good spam protection (see plugins) and works well as a filtering MTA. It also works well as a MSA running on port 587 with auth and dkim_sign plugins enabled. 
 
Haraka has a scalable outbound mail delivery engine built in. Mail marked as relaying (such as via an auth plugin) is automatically queued for outbound delivery.

Postfix is mail server that started life at IBM research as an alternative to the widely-used Sendmail program. Postfix attempts to be fast, easy to administer, and secure. The outside has a definite Sendmail-ish flavor, but the inside is completely different. It supports IPv6, DKIM, DomainKeys and SenderID authentication, SPF, Sendmail Milter (mail filter) protocol, Zombie blocker, TLS encryption, LDAP and it supports database like MySQL, PostgreSQL, Berkeley DB, Memcache.

ZoneMTA is a modern outbound MTA cross platform and extendable server application. Modern outbound SMTP relay (MTA/MSA) built on Node.js and MongoDB (queue storage). It's kind of like Postfix for outbound but is able to use multiple local IP addresses and is easily extendable using plugins that are way more flexible than milters.
 
ZoneMTA provides granular control over routing different messages. Trusted senders can be routed through high-speed (more parallel connections) virtual "sending zones" that use high reputation IP addresses, less trusted senders can be routed through slower (less connections) virtual "sending zones" or through IP addresses with less reputation. In addition the server comes packed with features more common to commercial software, ie. message rewriting, IP warm-up or HTTP API for posting messages.
