AlmaLinux is not going to be bug-for-bug compatible with RHEL

post-title

Red Hat recently announced that they will not provide RHEL downstream source and it will be only available for their subscribed users. AlmaLinux future was affected as they were releasing their product with 1:1 bug compatible with RHEL.

AlmaLinux decided that they will continue to support updates and security patches for their users. They will not provide bug-for-bug compatibility with RHEL. Users can report bugs and they will fix the reported issues. They will also continue to contribute to upstream in Fedora and CentOS Stream.

This decision will certainly make them independent and gives more freedom as like Percona or MariaDB did for MySQL. When Oracle acquired MySQL, Percona and MariaDB did a fork and continuously build their own database product. They are compatible with MySQL but they are not bug-for-bug compatible.

Let's welcome the decision of AlmaLinux. They have have individual sponsors and backers in addition to our corporate sponsors which will help them to keep the AlmaLinux OS free forever.
